Telemar Norte Leste Participacoes (Oi) CEO Luiz Eduardo Falco has been quoted in local press saying that the Brazilian operator has plans to expand internationally following the integration of Brasil Telecom (BrT), which it took over last year.
Falco is reported to have said that the Brazilian telco is looking to make a move outside the Brazilian market, as the global financial crisis has made takeover targets weaker and suitors are therefore more cautious about going after them. The CEO believes this opens opportunities for Oi, which it will look into after the full integration of BrT.
Reports indicate potential targets could be in Columbia, Uruguay and Argentina, as well as the African and Middle Eastern regions.
