Mexican businessman Ricardo Salinas, owner of local mobile telco Iusacell and TV operator TV Azteca, is mulling a partnership or merger of his assets, Bloomberg reports.
It is reported that the businessman sees synergies in his two assets, as the football content shown by his TV operator could attract new customers to Iusacell, which has been struggling in terms of subscriber numbers and finances.
Salinas controls 84% of Iusacell, which currently has debt of US$900m. The report also sites him as having said that the mobile operator is still in negotiations with its creditors after it suspended payments on a US-denominated debt in 2009.
