The Egyptian regulator has started enforcing a ban on international calls through mobile internet connections, Reuters reports.
The restriction applies to the three mobile operators, Mobinil, Etisalat Egypt and Vodafone Egypt, which provide internet access through USB or other mobile modems for computers and through mobile phones.
Amr Badawi, the executive president of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) was quoted saying that the ban was on Skype on mobile internet, not on fixed.
Egyptian law stipulates that international calls must be made through state-owned telecoms incumbent Telecom Egypt.
