Swedish operator Tele2 has finalised the acquisition of a 51% stake in Kazak mobile operator NEO for SEK545m.
In addition, the buyer will inject SEK360m in the mobile operator.
Tele2 also acquired a put option to buy the remaining 49% stake, which currently belongs to private investment group Asianet Holdings, five years after the closing of the initial transaction.
Tele2 was advised by Credit Agricole, while the seller, Kazakhtelecom, was advised by RBS.
Andrei Smelkov, who was previously CEO of VimpelCom’s operations in Kyrgyzstan, has been appointed new chairman of the management board and CEO of NEO.
NEO owns a 900MHz GSM licence in Kazakhstan and has some 16.2 million users.
