Sweden-based Tele2 (STO:TEL2) has adjusted the roles of Niklas Sonkin (pictured), Lars Torstensson, Anders Olsson and Malin Holmberg in a bid to boost productivity.
New CEO Allison Kirkby announced the changes, which she said were part of the ‘Challenger Program’ introduced last December to improve output.
“Within the framework of the ‘Challenger Program’ we have analysed and evaluated our internal way of working and come to the conclusion that a leadership team reorganization is necessary in order to increase our customer focus and to fully leverage group knowledge and scale efficiencies,” Kirkby said.
Sonkin, currently EVP and market area director for Eurasia and acting chief technology innovation officer, has been promoted to EVP and COO. He will oversee all CTIO and shared operations for Tele2, and retain responsibility for Kazakhstan and Germany.
Torstensson has been shifted from EVP of communications and strategy becomes to EVP of new growth and strategy.
Olsson, EVP and chief commercial officer, becomes EVP of strategic projects and will initially focus on executing the ‘Challenger Program’.
Lastly, Holmberg’s has had her role as acting EVP and market area director for Central Europe made permanent.
Announced in December 2014 by former CEO Mats Granryd, the ‘Challenger Program’ is designed to realise annual productivity savings of SKr1bn (US$120m) from 2018 onwards.
Granryd, who resigned as CEO in August to head up the GSMA, was replaced by Kirkby, who had been CFO. In September, the company hired telecoms veteran James Maclaurin to act as interim CFO, while it recruits to fill the permanent role.
