A mobile spectrum auction in the 2.6 GHz band was launched on 20 April in the Netherlands.
Five companies bid in the first round of the auction.
The total amount of spectrum available is 199.7 MHz, including a 9.7 MHz licence in the 2010 MHz-band. There are 39 licences which include 13 paired licences, 12 unpaired licences and one licence in the 2010 MHz-band.
Licence holders will be able to offer WiMAX or LTE services.
Germany was the first European country to begin auctioning additional mobile spectrum last week, but more auctions are expected to take place to meet the surging demand for bandwidth due to the rise of mobile data traffic.
