Canitec, the Mexican association of cable TV operators, has urged the country’s competition watchdog to block Mexican businessman Carlos Slim’s proposed merger of his mobile and fixed line operators America Movil, Carso, Global Telecom and Telmex International.
Canitec has asked the Federal Competition Commission (CFC) to consider the planned merger carefully, as it believes it would create a cartel which would hinder cable TV competition on the Mexican market, as well as the implications this would have for the country’s telecoms market.
