A Turkish court has ordered Turkcell to pay a TL279m (US$187m) fine to fixed-line operator Turk Telekom following a dispute over interconnection rates.
Turkcell, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, said it would appeal the verdict.
“Turkcell is required to pay Turk Telekom an amount of TL279m to recover our company’s losses due to the international connection established by Turkcell via Millenicom,” Turk Telekom said in a statement.
* Nordic company TeliaSonera and Russia’s Altimo have agreed to merge their shareholdings in Turkish mobile operator Turkcell and Russian mobile operator MegaFon into a new entity. See Russia section for details.
