The plan was reportedly announced by the minister of post and telecommunications, Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, at the cabinet council held on May 26.
MTN Cameroon and Orange Cameroon are the country’s two current mobile operators. They together reportedly have over eight million subscribers and have invested some CFAFr431bn (US$947m) in total. Their networks cover 65% of the territory.
