India’s leading mobile operator Bharti Airtel has said that as part of a consortium of international operators it has launched a US$300m undersea cable linking Japan with the US.
Global Transit, Google, KDDI Corp, Pacnet and SingTel are also partners in the Unity cable system project.
The cable will directly link Japan to the West coast of America, providing high-capacity bandwidth across the Pacific.
The 9,620km submarine project was first announced in February 2008.
“This is in line with our vision to offer multiple paths and create a robust undersea cable infrastructure for our customers. Unity cable system will provide enhanced and seamless global connectivity, as it is connected to other cable systems further enhancing connectivity to Asia,” Bharti Airtel Executive Director-Enterprise Services Rajan Swaroop said.
