Bharti Airtel, India’s largest mobile phone operator, expects to complete its acquisition of Zain’s 15 sub-Saharan African country operations in the middle of May.
Once complete, the US$10.7bn deal – the largest ever take-over in Africa – will make Bharti the fifth-largest mobile phone operator in the world with more than 169 million customers.
Bharti will close the deal just a month and a half after it announced that it would buy the operations in an agreed take-over, said Manoj Kohli, chief executive officer of the company’s international unit, speaking at Bharti’s first-quarter financial results.
