Shareholders in Zon Optimus have voted through the proposed appointments of the newly-merged telco’s board and senior management.
Miguel Almeida, who led Portuguese mobile operator Optimus before the merger with local cableco Zon, has been confirmed as CEO.
Zon’s former CFO Jose Pedro Faria Pereira da Costa has been given the same position at Zon Optimus.
Zon’s former CEO Rodrigo Costa has become a non-executive board member. The largest investor in Zon, Isabel dos Santos, also has a seat.
Lawyer Jorge Brito Pereira, who advised dos Santos on the deal in his capacity as a partner at PLMJ, becomes chairman.
Zon and Optimus agreed to merge at the start of the year for an undisclosed amount. The combination was given the green light by the competition authority at the end of July after a lengthy antitrust review and completed at the end of August.
Zon Optimus is Portugal’s second biggest telco behind incumbent Portugal Telecom and is controlled by a partnership between dos Santos and Sonaecom, a subsidiary of diversified Portuguese conglomerate Sonae.
