Cable operator Ziggo and Sweden’s Tele2 have won 2.6GHz frequency in the Dutch mobile spectrum auction.
Existing operators KPN, Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom were restricted as to what they could bid for in the auction, enabling the newcomers to snaffle spectrum to enter the market.
Both Ziggo and Tele2 will acquire 40MHz of the 190MHz that was on offer.
Operators that already have a foothold on the Dutch market were only allowed to bid for a maximum of 55MHz of spectrum apiece.
KPN and Vodafone will acquire 20MHz each and Deutsche Telekom acquired 10MHz. The Dutch government will subsequently hold a follow-up auction that will allow the companies to bid for specific pieces of bandwidth.
