The deputy CEO of Kuwaiti telco group Zain has resigned after just six months in the role.
Hisham Akbar’s resignation was announced in a company statement on the Kuwait stock exchange today, hot on the heels of CEO Nabeel Bin Salamah’s departure last month.
In September last year Akbar was promoted from acting chief commercial officer to both deputy CEO and COO, as part of significant changes Zain made to its management structure.
In a statement at the time, Zain said the changes were intended to streamline operations and improve the group’s competitiveness.
“The proactive steps that we are taking are set to help reinforce the group’s competencies in the face of intensifying challenges it faces in the highly-competitive markets in which we operate,” said Bin Salamah in September.
Bin Salamah announced his plans to leave last October, effective from February 2013, but no reasons were given for his departure. Scott Gegenheimer, previously CEO of rival telco Wataniya, has been appointed as his successor.
