Kuwaiti operator Zain has agreed to extend its One Network, which allows free roaming across a host of countries, to South Africa.
Zain has struck a deal with South African mobile operator Cell-C to implement the service, allowing all of Zain’s customers across 15 African nations to be charged at local prices when in South Africa.
Earlier this year, Zain agreed to sell the majority of its African portfolio to India’s Bharti Airtel for an enterprise value of US$10.7bn.
Zain Africa CEO Chris Gabriel said: “One Network is unstoppable. In every new country in which we plant the ‘One Network’ flag, we are redefining the concept of mobile coverage and roaming by delivering on our brand promise of ‘A wonderful world’.”
