Canada’s fourth-largest carrier Wind Mobile has not ruled out a potential tie-up with one of its smaller rivals to consolidate its presence in the country.
In an interview with TelecomFinance, Wind chairman Anthony Lacavera, who in September led an MBO to acquire VimpelCom’s stake in the operator, said the operator is considering “all options”, including an M&A transaction.
“We have long maintained that new entrants need to find ways to cooperate. That can mean many different things. It can mean consolidation through a national fourth carrier. It can also mean that we continue to exist as a regional fourth carrier,” he said.
Lacavera also commented on rumours of a potential deal minnow Mobilicity, which has been under creditor’s protection since April 2013.
“We have not been successful in consummating a relationship with Mobilicity and we are six years into the life of the project so I obviously have some scepticism about it,” he pointed out.
The full interview with Anthony Lacavera will be published in the December issue of TelecomFinance magazine, out on 18 December.
