France’s Vivendi has confirmed chairman and CEO Jean-Bernard Levy is leaving following a “divergence of views” over the group’s strategic development.
Levy’s departure from the media and telecoms group, owner of mobile unit SFR, was made official at a meeting of its supervisory board yesterday evening.
As anticipated, the company named Jean-Francois Dubos, Vivendi’s general counsel, as Levy’s successor, saying he will assume his new role immediately.
Vivendi also confirmed Stephane Roussel, currently the company’s senior executive vice president for human resources, is being put forward as the new chairman and CEO of SFR. The decision rests with the mobile unit’s board of directors.
Vodafone’s Michel Combes was set to take the helm of SFR on 31 July, but his future now appears uncertain. According to an unsourced report in French business daily Les Echos published yesterday, Combes will stay with Vodafone in a role yet to be defined. A Vodafone spokesperson was today unable to confirm whether or not Combes would stay with the group.
