UK cableco Virgin Media has announced a partnership with local housebuilder Persimmon to construct homes with built-in access to its fibre network.
Persimmon, which builds around 10,000 new UK houses ever year, will begin installing network points as an additional home-selling feature from next year.
It is understood that Virgin Media is also in talks to secure similar partnerships with rival UK housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Barratt Homes.
A spokesman for the cableco was unable to comment on future agreements, but said its deal with Persimmon will help mitigate the cost of digging up roads to expand its network.
He added that the group is on course to roll out fibre to “just shy of 13 million people by the end of 2011”.
