The Videocon Group has launched mobile services in India, becoming the country’s 13th mobile operator.
Formerly known as Datacom, the firm is now operating GSM services in Chennai.
The company, which holds a pan-India operating licence, will now roll out its coverage to 100 towns and cities over the next three months.
Videocon will also bid in India’s forthcoming 3G license auction.
Chairman Venugopal Dhoot said that he is targeting a customer base of 100 million.
The company will now pump US$3bn into its operations over the next three years on network roll out and expects to start profiting from operations in 2013.
