Turkcell is reportedly preparing a bid for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s BH Telecom as it awaits decisions on its offers for Cosmo Bulgaria Mobile (Globul) and Kosovo’s PTK.
The Turkish mobile operator’s planned bid for Sarajevo-based BH Telecom, in which the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina currently has a 90% stake, forms part of a wider expansion plan in the region, business news site Balkans.com reported with reference to local press reports.
Commenting on the reports, a Turkcell spokesperson said the company does not have a “project” concerning BH Telecom, but always looks into opportunities that present themselves in neighbouring countries.
Turkcell announced on 20 November that it has submitted a non-binding bid for Greek telco OTE’s Globul in Bulgaria as part of an “ongoing evaluation and analysis of investment opportunities in various countries”.
The company is also taking part in the bidding process for Kosovo telco PTK, the deadline for which the government privatisation committee recently extended until 15 January 2013.
Established in 1992, BH Telecom provides fixed, mobile and broadband internet services. The 10% of shares not held by the government are owned by private investment funds and small shareholders.
