After announcing it was looking to obtain Bt73bn (US$2.4bn) from private cellco Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thai state-owned telco TOT is now seeking another US$4.3bn from several other operators for alleged revenue losses, according to reports.
Total Access Communication, True Move and TT&T are among those who will be required to pay about Bt135bn (US$4.3bn) in damages for unpaid access charges and contract changes made a few years ago.
The former Thai government changed its tax regime in order to reduce costs for consumers. But in 2007, the Council of State reportedly ruled that those changes failed to comply with regulations, as they had not been approved by coordinating committees and the Cabinet.
AIS has reportedly been told to comply with TOT’s demands by 15 February, or the state-owned telco will take legal action.
