Telecom Italia’s Argentine unit Telecom Argentina has been granted more rights than initially expected, after an Argentine court annulled part of the rulings set up by the Argentine National Commission for the Defence of Competition (CNDC).
The Argentine antitrust regular had barred TI’s local unit from exercising numerous rights, as the process of a forced sale of the unit was ongoing. Telecom Italia is controlled by Spanish incumbent Telefonica, both of which have Argentine operations, and as these are the two main operators on the Argentine market, the authorities earlier this year attempted to force TI to sell off its interest in the country. The matter is still ongoing, but now a court has annulled some of the rulings by the CNDC which restricted TI exercising rights in the unit.
