Peru’s state news service has announced that three companies have tendered for its concession to build out a rural telecoms network
The three names in the hat are America Móvil Peru, Telefónica Movistar and a consortium, TECV.
The concession will be awarded on September 7.
The process has had a few hiccoughs as the first attempt in July this year ended in failure as the bidders failed to present a coherent financial plan to the government’s FDI agency, ProInversion.
The winner will build out a fibre-optic network to provide fixed and as broadband services to 370 rural municipalities in Peru’s Puno and Madre de Dios regions.
The total investment is expected to be US$7m, but the government is offering part-finance to the winning bidder.
