France Telecom’s Orange, Vivendi’s SFR and Iliad’s Free Mobile have bid for the remaining 3G frequencies in France.
Operators need additional 3G frequencies to improve their network capacity in light of increasing data traffic via mobile phones.
Bouygues Telecom, which also holds a 3G licence, has not bid for the spectrum.
The sale of the two 5 MHz frequencies in the 2.1 GHz band comes after Iliad was awarded France’s fourth mobile licence in January.
The minimum price for each block has been set at E120m.
The winners are expected to be announced before the end of May.
