Telstra Telecommunications Private (TTPL), a joint venture between Australian incumbent Telstra and Indian IT infrastructure services provider Microland, has been awarded three telecom licences in India.
In a statement, Telstra said these licences will allow the JV to provide customers with international and national long-distance telecom and ISP services.
Operations will first start in seven cities within the next six months.
Tarek Robbiati, group MD for Telstra International Group (TIG), said these services would mainly be aimed at “businesses setting up operations in India as well as local companies expanding into emerging markets.”
He added: “Today’s announcement demonstrates Telstra’s ongoing commitment to invest in India and is a key milestone for us in expanding our comprehensive suite of services to customers seeking global reach to address their growth plans, while providing relevant local insight and support.”
TTPL, which was formed in 2009, is 74%-owned by Telstra.
