Indonesia’s Telkom aims to monetise 4,000 of its mobile unit Telkomsel’s 17,000 towers, according to reports citing CEO Indra Utoyo.
He was cited saying the plan has already been approved by Singapore-based telco SingTel, which owns 35% of Telkomsel, and that it will invite local towerco Tower Bersama Infrastructure to participate.
Telkom, which is Indonesia’s largest telecoms player, was unable to comment before the press deadline. SingTel declined to comment.
XL Axiata, the country’s second-largest mobile player, recently declared it is open to selling the majority of its tower portfolio next year if it needed to raise funds.
Its CEO Hasnul Suhaimi said the group could sell 4,500 of its 5,500 towers, after offloading 3,500 of them to local towerco Solusi Tunas Pratama in October for around US$460m. The deal marked the country’s largest-ever tower sale.
Tower Bersama was also reportedly interested in that sale, which was run by BofA Merrill Lynch.
