Telkom SA has appointed Sipho Maseko as its new CEO and executive director, who was previously MD of rival telco Vodacom South Africa.
Outgoing CEO Nombulelo Moholi departs at the end of March and Maseko’s appointment takes effect from 1 April, according to a statement from the South African telco today.
Telkom also announced that it is appointing Brian Armstrong as Group COO.
“The appointment of a seasoned executive with telecommunications experience is another building block in Telkom’s turnaround process”, said Jabu Mabuza, chairman at Telkom. “The objective of Telkom’s turnaround is to deliver sustainable performance. It is a strategy that requires a strong leadership team with the ability to ensure performance and execution and gain the support of all its stakeholders.”
As TelecomFinance previously reported, departing CEO Moholi left at a time when Telkom was struggling. The operator saw significant losses in the past year, following its failed expansion into the Nigerian market and a decline in fixed-line revenue. The company’s share price fell almost 40% in 2012.
