Acting CEO Jeffrey Hedberg told the board of South African fixed-line operator Telkom that he did not wish to take up the CEO role after the expiration of his contract on March 2011.
Times Live reported on its website that Romeo Kumalo, who is currently in charge of commercial affairs at Vodacom, was the frontrunner to become CEO because he has the support of Telkom’s new chairman Polelo Lazarus Zim.
But Telkom PR office Pynee Chetty denied the report saying: “This is pure speculation”.
Zim was appointed chairman on February 16 for a one-year period and non-executive director for a three year period. He has replaced Jeff Molobela, who has retired as chairman but who has been re-appointed as a non-executive director for three years.
