Norwegian telecoms group Telenor has appointed new CEOs for its Thai and Malaysian mobile subsidiaries, effective from 1 April 2015.
Albern Murty, current COO of Malaysia’s Digi, has been promoted to the top role. He replaces Lars-Ake Norling, who will take over as CEO of Thailand’s Total Access Communication (Dtac).
Norling will replace Dtac interim CEO Sigve Brekke, who stepped in last September after Jon Eddy Abdullah resigned from the post.
Brekke will return to his role as executive VP and head of Asia, while continuing to serve as vice chairman in Dtac’s board.
Dtac, in which Telenor has a 42.6% stake and management control, is the number two operator in Thailand and has around one-third market share.
Digi is Malaysia’s third-largest mobile operator in an eight-player market.
Norling joined Digi as CEO in August 2014, having previously been CEO of Telenor Sweden from 2009 to 2014. He has also held a number of executive positions at Swedish fixed broadband provider Bredbandsbolaget and Ericsson.
Murty was appointed as Digi’s COO in January 2014, after serving as chief marketing officer for a number of years. Before joining Digi, he held Asia-based management roles at Lucent Technologies.
