Telekom Austria will not take part in the new privatisation process of PTK, set to begin next week.
During an earlier privatisation attempt, that was abandoned late last year, Telekom Austria had been shortlisted alongside Deutsche Telekom owned Hrvatski Telekom.
But a spokesperson for the Austrian incumbent today told TelecomFinance that it would not make a bid this time round.
“Telekom Austria will not take part in the tender process for PTK,” the spokesperson said.
Turkcell, in the meantime, says it has not yet decided whether or not to participate in the tender process. The company attended an investors’ conference in Istanbul earlier in the week, a person who attended the event told TelecomFinance.
The conference was organised by investment banks Lazard and Raiffeisen Investment, which advise the Kosovar government on the new sale process.
A similar event the previous week in London had mainly attracted private equity interest.
In a written statement to TelecomFinance, Turkcell said its international expansion team regularly attended events of this kind. “However, we need to have a board decision to proceed with a particular project and there is no decision taken by the board for any potential projects at this time.”
Another party attending the investors’ day in Istanbul this week was Calik Group, the Turkish conglomerate that owns telco Albtelecom in Albania.
