Spanish mobile operator Telefonica is interested in acquiring a stake in Telekom Srbija, according to media reports in Spain.
With the Serbian government planning to sell half of its 80% stake in its state telecoms company in September, there ‘might’ be interest from Spain. The Serbian deputy prime minister for European integration, Bozidar Delic, at a meeting with the Spanish minister of foreign affairs Miguel Angel Moratinos in Madrid, said that Telefonica might be interested in acquiring a 40% stake.
However, Serbia’s telecommunications minister Jasna Matic has said that Egyptian operator Orascom is still favourite in the tender process, with Deutsche Telekom also having confirmed interest in the privatization.
