Telecom New Zealand, the country’s incumbent, has confirmed in a statement the sale of AAPT’s consumer unit to iiNet, an Australian internet service provider, for A$60m (US$58m). AAPT is an Australian fixed-line telco wholly owned by Telecom NZ.
The company explained that the sale will allow it to rationalise its non-core assets in Australia and to focus on its network-centric wholesale and corporate businesses.
“We believe that AAPT will be well positioned for future growth through focus on its core strengths, which include operating its nation-wide network,” said chief executive Paul Reynolds in the statement.
