Mobile group T-Mobile USA is no hurry to rush into a marriage with Clearwire, the WiMax JV majority-owned by Sprint Nextel, chief network officer, Neville Ray has told Bloomberg.
Despite recent speculation suggesting that T-Mobile USA could buy a stake in Clearwire from Sprint Nextel, the Deutsche Telekom owned company has now stated it prefers LTE over Clearwire’s WiMax technology.
Ray was quoted saying that T-Mobile USA would look at LTE at “the right point in time for us”, adding that LTE would be “much richer” than WiMax, which he described as a “niche play.”
He continued, saying that T-Mobile USA already had the right technology to deliver 4G.
