TDC will be forced to open up its copper and cable TV network YouSee to rival operators under a new decision taken by the telecom regulator NITA.
The decision follows a review started last year after a survey based on EU standards showed that TDC enjoys an unfair advantage in the copper and cable broadband market.
In its review, NITA argued that TDC’s dominant position slowed any incentive for the operator to invest in new technologies to upgrade its network.
Rival broadband providers including Telenor and Telia’s Stofa are likely to ask for access to its cable network.
TDC has previously denounced the proposal as unprecedented and unacceptable. YouSee is widely considered to be the company’s cash cow: it was the only TDC unit to see revenues rise and escape mass firings in 2008.
