Croatian incumbent T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT) is close to finalising a sale-and-leaseback agreement for its infrastructure unit with local telecoms equipment supplier Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ETK).
T-HT management board president Ivica Mudrinic has received a concrete offer from ETK, local paper Poslovni Dnevnik wrote, citing unnamed sources.
The parties have reportedly already agreed on price, but T-HT is carrying out another internal analysis of the offer. The deal value has not been ascertained.
T-HT, majority owned by Germany’s Deutsche Telekom, will continue to use the infrastructure after the deal closes, the report says, adding that the deal is aimed at cutting costs and boosting profits.
Commenting on the report, a T-HT spokesperson said the company has not made any decision on such a sale and cannot comment on speculation on the matter.
ETK, in which Sweden’s Ericsson has a 49.07% stake, declined to comment.
The paper states that T-HT, listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange, has been considering divesting its infrastructure unit for about a year and a half. The telco had looked at spinning off the unit into a separate company before deciding to sell it. T-HT also held preliminary talks with Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei, according to the report.
