Norway’s Telenor (OSE:TEL) has appointed Sharad Mehrotra as the new CEO of its Indian unit as part of a broader management shake-up.
Mehrotra (pictured) replaces Vivek Sood, who will become executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the Telenor Group, the Oslo-based company said in a statement.
Both appointments are effective from 1 November 2015.
Mehrotra was previously chief marketing officer of Telenor Myanmar, responsible for sales, marketing and branding. Before this, he served as head of the group’s Asia Distribution programme aimed at driving regional synergies and sales. He also played a key role in establishing Telenor India (then known as Uninor), which was a joint venture with local partner Lakshdeep Investment & Finance before the Norwegian telco took full control last October.
Telenor said it has restructured its executive management team so all 13 of its markets will be represented in an effort to “ensure faster execution of the group strategy and a closer connection to the customers”. It has also established a dedicated digital business unit.
The other new group-level appointments include Ruza Sabanovice as EVP and chief technology officer, Wenche Agerup as EVP and chief corporate affairs officer, Jon Gravrak as EVP and chief digital officer and Pal Wien Espen as head of partner relations Asia. Morten Karlsen will be responsible for Telenor’s stake in Russia-focussed VimpelCom and certain strategic projects.
Telenor president and CEO Sigve Brekke said: “By more directly involving the business unit CEOs in delivering on the global strategy and priorities, we increase our ability to execute and create value”.
