Indian telco Reliance Communications (NSE:RCOM) has partnered with California-based IoT platform provider Jasper to help develop IoT businesses in India, starting with Reliance Group companies.
The partnership will see technical teams from Mumbai-based RCom and Jasper manage a phased roll-out of IoT services across the country, the companies said in a joint statement.
Companies part of the conglomerate Reliance Group will be the anchor clients, but talks are underway with other organisations and state governments nationwide to deploy the platform, they said.
The duo will use RCom’s 11 data centres and global cloud exchange (Cloud X) platform together with Jasper’s IoT services platform to help businesses launch, manage and monetise IoT services.
Bill Barney, CEO of RCom’s enterprise and Cloud X divisions, said reliable networks, innovative cloud computing and scalable IoT platforms will be critical for Indian businesses going forward.
“We are pleased to team up with Jasper in this important deployment of IoT services, enabling businesses across India to build, implement and go to market faster, while gaining real-time visibility, control and service reliability.”
Jasper founder and CEO Jahangir Mohammed noted that there is a large demand in India for cloud and IoT services as a result of government investment in technology and infrastructure.
Founded in 2004, Jasper claims to help more than 2,000 companies globally to fast-track their IoT services. It says it has partnered with 26 mobile operator groups, representing more than 100 wireless networks worldwide. RCom is its sole telecoms partner in India.
