Dmitry Shukov, the CEO of Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) has resigned, with 7 September to be his final day at the Indian mobile operator.
CFO and Deputy COO Sergey Savchenko will take over next week, with current director of business planning Elena Peretrukhina becoming acting CFO. A spokesperson for Sistema confirmed the management changes, saying the board had approved them at a meeting held today.
SSTL is a subsidiary of Russian mobile operator MTS, itself a subsidiary of conglomerate Sistema, and operates under the MTS India brand name.
“We thank Dmitry for his contribution and emphasize that the company’s strategy and priorities will remain the same,” said Sistema president and CEO Mikhail Shamolin.
In June, Sistema announced that it was in exclusive talks to merge SSTL with India’s number four cellco Reliance Communications (RCom). SSTL has some 10 million customers, while RCom has more than 100 million.
Shukov will return to Moscow to be with his family, before moving to another country to take up a new role, he told the Economic Times. He added that his departure did not relate to the ongoing merger discussions.
Having previously held the top jobs at MTS Turkmenistan and MTS Uzbekistan, Shukov joined SSTL in 2013, taking over from Vsevolod Rozanov, who went on to take a senior position at Sistema.
