Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is to auction a third mobile licence, transport and communications minister Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi has said.
The new player would compete with state-owned incumbent Omantel (MSM:OTEL) and Ooredoo Oman (MSM:ORDS), which is 55% owned by Qatar’s Ooredoo (QA:ORDS).
Gurkan Ozturk, the CEO of MVNO Integrated Telecommunications Oman (TeO), formerly known as Samatel, said in 2015 that his company aimed to become a network operator. He also said the company wanted to offer VoIP and fibre broadband services.
TeO runs on Ooredoo’s network.
