Sweden’s Tele2 (STO:TEL2) has hired telecoms veteran James Maclaurin as interim CFO following the promotion of Allison Kirkby to CEO on 1 September.
Maclaurin came recommended by Tele2 chairman, Mike Parton, having worked with him at now-defunct British telecoms group Marconi.
Tele2 is continuing its process to find a new permanent CFO.
Since his spell at Marconi, Maclaurin has been CFO at Malaysian giant Axiata, Vodafone’s Central European and African arms, and Celtel, which went on to become Airtel Africa.
Kirkby commented: “His breadth of financial and operational experience in the telecoms industry is perfect for Tele2 at this time, particularly as we are executing on our challenger program.”
Tele2 in August promoted Kirkby as CEO, after Mats Granryd resigned to head up the GSMA. She joined Tele2 in May 2014 as CFO, and the board said, had already been primed as Granryd’s successor.
