Slovakian telecoms operator Antik Telecom is reportedly planning on launching a satellite DTH platform by the end of the year.
According to local media, the company is looking to expand its television offering by using satellite to provide coverage across the whole country as well as increase the number of HD channels it broadcasts. At present the telco only offers IPTV services via its fibre network in eastern Slovakia.
Antik’s product manager for TV services, Vlastimil Lakatos, was cited by Slovakian technology news website Zive.sk as ruling out cooperating with the country’s established satellite DTH providers Skylink (which is owned by M7 Group), Magio (owned by Slovak Telekom) and freeSAT (owned by UPC).
Lakatos added that Antik planned to offer hybrid set top boxes that will enable both satellite and internet services.
