SingTel and Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom have secured launch-plus-one insurance for their jointly-owned forthcoming ST-2 satellite. ISB was the broker on the placement.
The satellite has been built by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and is based on the MELCO DS2000 platform. While this bus is not as familiar to the insurance market as the GEO platform’s built in the US and Europe, the placement is understood to have been favourably received and the satellite was insured for just under US$300m.
The ST-2 order made Mitsubishi Electric the first Japanese satellite manufacturer to enter the commercial communications satellite market outside Japan, using its original Japan-made satellite bus platform.
