Russian Space Communications Corporation’s Express AM-1 satellite has failed in orbit.
The company said that the problem first arose on April 24, and that it has been impossible to maintain the satellite’s orbit at 40E.
Express AM-1 was built by Russian manufacturer ISS-Reshetnev, with a payload designed by Japanese company NEC Toshiba Space Systems, and was launched in 2004. It was designed for a lifespan of ten to twelve years.
It carries 18 Ku-band, 9 C-band and one L-band transponder.
