Swedish maritime-focused mobile operator Seanet Maritime Communications has announced plans to appoint Roland Svensson, a former executive at European vendor Ericsson, to CEO from 1 October.
Svensson will be replacing Viesturs Vucins, who has held the position since March 2010 and will continue to serve its board.
According to Hakan Jansson, chairman of Seanet, Svensson is particularly suited for the role because of his experience as CEO of local infrastructure telco Drutt from 2000 until 2007, when it was acquired by Ericsson.
NASDAQ OMX First North-listed Seanet provides GSM-based services on the 1800MHz band to vessels, such as cruise ships and ferries. It also aims to offer global marine services through roaming agreements with international mobile operators.
