The Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has rejected Qualcomm’s request for an internet licence. Qualcomm had applied for such a license following a successful bid for spectrum in the circles of Mumbai, Delhi, Kerala and Haryana in June 2010 for US$1bn.
A Qualcomm spokesperson said that the company was notified of the rejection yesterday.
According to media reports the DoT had said that the company missed a deadline for application.
Without being specific about the reasons for the DoT’s negative decision, the Qualcomm spokesperson said that it “has been rejected on grounds that we find to be baseless. In fact, the application process was fully complied with, and we will continue to work with the Indian authorities to resolve this matter.”
