The Bangladesh government and the telecoms industry regulator have reportedly opened the door for five public switched telephone network (PSTN) operators to get back their licences that were cancelled 15 months ago.
In March 2010, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BRTC) reportedly decided to close five PSTN operators – Dhaka Phone, National Telecom, PeoplesTel, Ranks Tel and WorldTel – over alleged illegal call termination through VoIP.
According to a report today in local newspaper the Daily Star, the Bangladeshi government and the BRTC have changed the rules on how the operators can get their licences and begin operating.
The PSTN operators will now have to solve their payment disputes with mobile operators before they can apply to the authorities to have their licences returned.
