The Portuguese state has set E200m as the amount it must raise in this year’s 4G spectrum auction, reports Dow Jones.
Xavier Rodriguez-Marin, the CEO of domestic fixed-line player Oni Telecom, told the newswire that the amount is already in this year’s budget. He added that Oni wants to offer mobile, and as such would be interested in participating in the auction as a junior partner.
Oni, which is controlled by private equity firm The Riverside Company, reported E136m in revenue and E6m in profit for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, according to Dow Jones.
He suggested that international players could also participate, in a bid to join current mobile operators Portugal Telecom, Vodafone Portugal and Sonaecom-owned Optimus.
Portugal’s Ministry of Public Works, which is responsible for spectrum, told Dow Jones it was unable to confirm either the auction’s timing or expected value.
