Private equity firm Permira has promoted Henry Chen and Alex Emery to partners responsible for operations across Asia Pacific, following its majority stake acquisition in Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS).
They have been appointed co-heads of Asia, with a particular focus on Greater China, Korea and Japan.
Chen joined the firm in 2008 as head of its Hong Kong office, where he was involved in the ABS investment thought to be worth approximately US$200m.
Emery joined in 2002, and in 2008 became head of its Tokyo office.
Permira claims to have deployed more than US$2bn of capital in three companies in the region over the last five years: In gaming and hotel firm Galaxy Entertainment, agrochemicals group Arysta, and ABS.
“Alex and Henry have been working closely on establishing Permira’s presence in Asia over the past couple of years and together they will continue to expand the team and the firm’s franchise in Greater China, Korea and Japan,” said Veronica Eng, chairman of Asia at Permira.
“With three well-performing investments and US$2bn deployed in the region since 2005, they have a strong platform to build on in the years ahead.”
