Hong Kong-based telecoms conglomerate PCCW has hired Srinivas Bangalore Gangaiah to become the next group managing director.
Second in command after Richard Li, billionaire and chairman of the company, Gangaiah will join PCCW on 14 July to replace George Chan, who is retiring.
Gangaiah previously served as president and executive director of Infosys, an Indian multinational providing consulting, technology and outsourcing services.
Li commented that Gangaiah, in his new role, “will develop both [PCCW’s] media and IT businesses locally and internationally”.
PCCW operates in multiple telecoms and media segments and one of its flagship companies is Hong Kong mobile operator HKT, which is currently being merged with rival CSL. The US$2.4bn deal will create the city’s market leader with an estimated 31% market share.
