Palestine could soon become home to 3G services, following a proposal by Israel’s communications ministry.
If the Palestinian Authority meets unspecified conditions outlined in a proposal presented last night by Israeli officials, Paltel and Ooredoo-owned Wataniya could soon upgrade from 2G to 3G, reported Reuters.
“We now have the will” for an agreement, a spokesperson for the ministry was cited saying.
Palestinian telecoms minister Allam Mousa, who reportedly called the new proposals a “breakthrough”, emphasised that there was no final agreement.
The Israeli Ministry of Communications this week allocated the 4G licences won in January’s auction, with Hot, Pelephone and Partner Communications expected to launch services immediately. Golan Telecom and Cellcom, which have inked a network sharing agreement, may meet delays in launching 4G, according to Globes.
